What GLP-1s do to your liver
Fatty liver is common, quiet, and often improves on a properly supervised GLP-1 course. Here is what actually changes.

Most people carrying extra weight have some degree of fat in the liver, and most of them have never been told. It rarely hurts. It shows up, if anyone looks, as mildly raised enzymes on a routine panel.\n\nWhen weight comes down steadily on a GLP-1, liver fat usually comes down with it. That is one of the better-documented effects of this class of medication, and it is the reason a hepatologist sits at the centre of this practice rather than at the edge of it.\n\nWhat we watch: liver enzymes before you start, and again at review. If they are raised, we want to know why before we assume it is simply fat. Alcohol, medication, viral hepatitis and autoimmune disease all sit on the same list, and they are not treated the same way.\n\nWhat we will not do is tell you your liver is fine because your weight is falling. Those are two different questions.
